UMTR Volunteering: Trail Maintenance Project – Jay Cooke SP / Superior Hiking Trail

Extra, extra, read all about it! Trail Maintenance Project is scheduled!

UMTR is coordinating our annual trail maintenance project and we want your help! This is a great chance to help maintain the quality trails we are privileged to use throughout the year. Plus, you can earn valuable volunteer points for the various Trail Series to boot!

This year we will be assisting with Gill Creek Trail Area in Jay Cooke State Park in Carlton, MN. Date is Saturday, May 31st. The gameplan is to meet at the Jay Cooke Visitor’s Center by 7:15am and finish up the maintenance by 2pm. Volunteers will then coordinate a variety of distances of trail runs followed by a BBQ sponsored by UMTR. If you don’t want to run, the BBQ will also be starting up right after the trail clearing.

No skill is needed and this is a family friendly event. All tools and training will be provided. Wayne Nelson and Rick Bothwell will be discouraged from using any sharp or gas powered hand tools…if anyone finds those three fingers, please contact Wayne.

This is a super fun event and last year we had over 35 people participate. Nutella will definitely be provided!!

If you are interested, respond to this posting and I’ll provide more specific info on directions, camping options, etc.

Carry on…
