UMTR Trail Series: June Action

Bueller, Bueller….

It’s that time again… time for another update of the UMTR Trail Series Standings. It’s been a busy past month for both the race series and myself so I apologize for not being able to get out the update sooner. Included in this update is the Chester Woods Races and the Sour Grapes 1/2 Marathon. As many of you are aware, William O’Brien 10 Miler has been postponed until later this year. It will still be included in the Trail Series and, with its new date, you’ll get to run back-to-back races on 9/20-9/21 with In Yan Teopa. Hey, we thought the series was getting too easy so we made a little side pact with the weather gods.

We continue to have fabulous participation in this year’s series. We are up to 105 participants and, of those, 65 have run at least one series race. Volunteering is also up… so kudos to all!

Now to the standings… Overall, Ethan Richards and Christi Nowak (who got engaged recently to each other) are leading the Men’s and Women’s, respectively.

Looking at the Class standings, we have a number of tight races that continue to entertain. In the Women’s Open Nowak leads Wendy Nelson by only 25 points. The Women’s Master’s continue to see one of the tightest races with Nora(I haven’t missed a race yet) Compton barely ahead of Janet Gray 160 to 145. And in the Women’s Grandmaster’s we have a three-way battle with Carolyn Petersen(105), squeaking out a five point lead over both Yvonne Hubmayr and Leann Lehmann (100 each).

In the Men’s Open Ethan Richards continues to have a strong lead. The Men’s Master’s features Luke Nelson (105) with a twenty point lead over Kevin Montroy (85). And, finally, in the Men’s Grandmasters we have a familiar battle continuing from last year with Douglas Hegley (150) leading Rick (just call me Mr. Shoot the Moon) with 135 points.

Next Series race is tomorrow (Saturday) with the Afton 25k and the Afton 50k for those looking to move up.

As usual, double check your totals and inform me if you see any mistakes….now go enjoy the holiday and watch some fireworks. 🙂
