UMTR Trail Series: They’re comin’ fast and furious…

The races they are a comin’ fast and furious for the UMTR Trail Series….

After a few week hiatus during the last few weeks of August, we’ve seen two races in the last two weeks(Moose Mtn. Marathon and Harmon Farms) and another two(In Yan Teopa and William O’Brien) this upcoming weekend. Fall is here and the weather has been near perfect!

The usual suspects are near the top in each of the classes with the Female Open, Female Grandmasters and the Men’s Grandmaster’s still uncertain and four races yet on the docket.

In the Female Open Wendy Nelson leads Christi Nowak 190-155 and in the Female Masters Janet Gray leads Nora Compton 380-290. The real battle is in the Female Grandmasters where no one has been able to take a dominant lead. Five, count’em five, women are battling for the win with 65 points separating the group. Carolyn Petersen is the overall leader with 200 points followed by Barb Zeches who picked up 100 points in the last two races with 180. Amy Clark(150), Yvonne Hubmayr(140) and Leann Lehmann(135) are third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

In the chase for the overall Female Champion it’s a two person race with Janet Gray(290) with a healthy lead over Nora Compton(200).

On the Men’s side Ethan Richards still leads the Men’s Open with 220 points and in the Men’s Masters Luke Nelson leads Steve Smillie(205-120) who had an outstanding finish at last week’s Harmon Farms. In the Men’s Grandmasters Class Rick Stevens holds a narrow lead over John Eiden(275-245).

And finally, in the battle for the Men’s Overall Championship, it is a four horse racw with Ethan Richards with a miniscule lead over Rick Stevens(210-205) with Luke Nelson(185) and John Eiden within striking distance.

And….SHE’S STILL GOING AND GOING AND GOING….Janet Gray continues to successfully pursue her goal of “Shooting the Moon”. She has completed 13 races and has only four yet to finish. Way to go Janet!
