The first Gnarly race complete!

As sunshine streamed into the Zumbro assembly area Friday morning, 11 Gnarly Bandit hopefuls toed the starting line, with smiles on their faces and fire in their souls. And by Saturday evening, all but one had completed the first of the five challenges in the race series. (Allan Holtz stopped after four of six laps).

Warm, sunny weather and unusually dry (and sandy) trails made for un-Zumbro-like conditions, and the Gnarly crew took full advantage. Not only did 10 finish the race, but several crashed the podium. Congratulations to the first place woman and third overall finisher, Tina Johnson; the second and third place open-category men, Jeff Leuwerke and Kevin Clark; and the second and third place grandmaster women, Susan Donnelly and Angela Barbera! Steven Barge, Andrew Deering, Ty Kleiner, Erik Raivo, and Carl Skustad round out the roster of remaining Gnarlies.

Next up is Kettle Moraine, on June 3. Rest up, Gnarlies, clean out those drop bags, and get ready. I’m calling it right now: this is going to be an INCREDIBLE year for the Gnarly Bandit series. See you all in June!
