Another two races down! Ice Age and Spring Superior are fading in the rearview mirror already.
Shout out to Kelly Jaworski for a great race in the 50 mile race at Ice Age. That proved to be the most competitive in the Ultra Series, with Kate Leis and Laurel Sipe not far behind.
It was a fast day at Spring Superior! Course records were set for the men’s and women’s 50K, and the Ultra Series participants were cruising as well. Kelly Jaworski doubled back with a great 11th place finish. The women’s grandmasters had a day as well! Lisa Messerer lead the charge with an age group win, almost necessary on a day with four of the six series competitors in the race. On the men’s side, Luke Nelson had a spectacular finish in tenth place (and third master! Gosh those races are competitive).
I feel we need to acknowledge that it was a tragic day on the SHT as we lost a member of our trail family during the Spring Superior races. Please keep the family of Jon Mathson in your thoughts, and consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign that will benefit them. https://www.gofundme.com/jon-mathson-memorial-fund
Next up for the Ultra Series is a doubleheader Saturday, with the Chester Woods and Kettle Moraine events on tap. Good luck if you’re headed to southern Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Please see the series results on the shared Google Doc. If there are any errors or omissions, shoot me an email at enordgre@gmail.com. Keep those volunteer hours coming, too. They can be submitting using the link in email you received!
Happy trails!
